AP Courses Details

AP (Advanced Placement)

Q1 Who can write an AP exam?
Ans: There is no stipulated age for when a student can write his/her first AP test. When a student has acquired the knowledge for a particular AP subject, he/she could go ahead test in it. Ideally, students work on taking a couple of AP's over the last 3-4 years at school. So, it Is realistic to say that a student can write 1 AP in grade 9, may be 2 in grade 10, 2 or 3 in grade 11 and, if needed, even in Grade 12.
Q2 What are the benefits of having AP scores?
Ans: AP scores upward of 3 definitely facilitate entry to top Colleges and Universities – mostly in the US and Canada but of late in other countries too such as the UK & Australia AP scores indicate a student’s readiness with college- level subject knowledge.
Hence Universities exempt students with AP scores from Introductory Course work, place them in higher designated course and grant course credits that allow students to save some of the cost of classes.
Q3 Can students from non-AP curriculum schools write AP exams?
Ans: Definitely. Such students must register early in the academic year (November of 2024 for AP exams of May 2025) at a College Board designated local school that allows ‘external’ students to write AP’s there.
Q4 When should a student start preparation for the May 2025 AP exams?
Ans: Once the new school session starts end- Aug 2024, it is best to plan a slow and steady prep schedule for the AP/APs a student is aiming to write in May 2025. The biggest benefit of starting early is that despite the now and then breaks a student will take due to school exams, the students will have enough time to prep well and thus to score a 4 or 5 on each AP.
